Ask this documentExtra

Ask questions about the document and get answers that cite its passages.

Ask this document: an answer citing its passages
The AI bar with quick actions and the prompt box
The editor with the ribbon, rulers and a document
The comments panel: a thread with a mention, an assignment and a reply

Questions are answered from the document itself, and every answer cites the passages it used.

ai.chat: true adds Ask at the bottom right, opening a side panel like Gemini in Google Docs. Questions are answered from the document: whole document, this section, or the selection. Long documents are cut by heading and only the passages that match the question are sent (headings first for a broad question like a summary), never the whole text for a narrow one. Answers cite the passages as numbered chips; clicking one scrolls to the paragraph and highlights it.

Quick actions: Summarise, Key points, Action items, Explain this, Translate selection, and Find where it says… (a plain search, no AI). Each answer has Insert at cursor, Replace selection, Copy and Add as comment. Viewers and commenters can ask but not insert. The panel remembers being open, per person. History is kept by ai.chatStore (load, save, clear; default: this browser), so your app can keep it per document and per person. It uses the same ai.complete as the bar, with action: 'ask'.
